Boxing Hares Garden Wall Hanging Plaque, Indoor or Outdoor ornament, pagan wiccan garden birthday gift
Boxing Hares Garden wall hanging plaque
The traditional ‘Mad March Hare’ behaviour which involves boxing, is actually unreceptive females fending off males. Being the fastest land animals in the UK, brown hares escape predators by out-running them.
The hare is known to be sacred to the goddess Eostre and eventually became known as the Easter bunny, it is believed to represent growth, re-birth, abundance and good fortune. At Easter we eat Hot-Cross-Buns, the cross on the bun is said to represent the four quarters of the moon, these buns were originally pagan offerings. Courtship involves boxing - the traditional 'mad March hare' behaviour. This is actually unreceptive females fending off males, rather than fighting between males. Brown hares escape predators by out-running them.
